Confirmation
We invite you for a moment to think about your own Spiritual journey, or the journey of someone close to you. The Holy Spirit seeks to enter into the lives of Christians ever more deeply. Do you feel called to take a deeper step in your Christian journey? Is there someone you know who might be ready or interested?
We are delighted that Bishop Chris will soon be coming to the Parish to Confirm into the faith any members of the parish who wish to take this step in their Christian Journey. This page is to give you information about being confirmed and about how to explore taking this step.
Questions about Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation. At Baptism a person is first received into the church, often with parents or guardians making promises on their behalf. Confirmation is another Sacrament along the way, often signifying and marking the moment when a person takes their faith vows for themselves. In being confirmed a Christian receives graces from the Holy Spirit to help them continue and be strengthened in their journey. For some this will lead them to be admitted to Holy Communion for the first time, for others this will signify a further declaration of their faith and commitment to continue to grow into the likeness of Christ, for others it may mark their admission to a particular denomination. There are many reasons people will choose to be confirmed, but in all of them, God calls his people to draw ever closer to Him and seeks to equip them spiritually.
The Church of England has provided a page of ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ on their website which may be helpful to answer your queries. The Video below also describes a perspective on what is happening at and through Confirmation. But, also please contact our clergy; Ken or Arwen in the parish to have a chat.
What and when?
The Confirmation service will be taking place on Saturday 31st March (Holy Saturday) as part of a special service in St Just Church. In the weeks leading up to this service we will be offering some gatherings through Lent to discuss and deepen in aspects of our faith. All will be welcome to these sessions even if confirmed, or not thinking about confirmation. We will also have a session on the service itself and the aspects of the liturgy.
If the idea of Confirmation is nudging at you, then we recommend that you pray and ask God for His guidance in making this decision for your life. Nudging is often a sign of being called by GGod and responding to that calling is one of the best decisions you can make in your life. As you go through this discernment process, you can register for more information and be kept in the loop as you decide. Please drop Arwen or Ken a line.
