Flowers

Wild and cultivated flowers grow in happy association together through the seasons of the year.

  • First come the snowdrops
  • Followed by the daffodils, primroses and celandines, the pink and blues of the camellias
  • Then the bluebells, white leeks and pink campion, all massed tumbling down the western and southern slopes.
  • When these have faded, it is the turn of the orange montbretia, and the blue, white and pink of the hydrangeas.
  • Marsh marigolds, saxifrage, willowherb, columbine, primula, comfrey, daisy, cow parsley, cyclamen, forget-me-not, heathers and many more.
  • You will find many colourful lichens in the churchyard. Tombstones, trees, walls, stones, and decaying plant material all form suitable habitat for lichens to grow in, and the almost tropical atmosphere enables many ferns and mosses to grow profusely.
